Highlights from Hawaii

For those of you who don't know, we just returned from our first ever trip to Hawaii. We vacationed in Southern Maui-Kihei-and were sad to see the week fly by just as we were getting used to relaxing!

Mom aka "grandma" came along for the trip. It was also her first time traveling to Hawaii. We were thankful to have her along as an extra set of hands and a babysitter. David and I haven't had a dinner out--alone--for 14 months-so it was pretty exciting. Yes, I know I could hire a babysitter back in KC, but by the time Oscar goes to bed--we're too wiped out to even think about going out on a dinner date.

It was great having mom along to help out with the little man--who is as active as ever these days--and to give us a little break now and again. Thanks, Mom!



Oscar also liked having grandma along to rescue him from his parents who were busy dragging him into the ocean. With both of us being raised around the water, we were excited to take Oscar for his first dip in the ocean. As you can see above, he was less than thrilled.

Check out the look Oscar's giving David in the pic below. He was so ticked.

Slowly but surely, David was able to ease Oscar back into the ocean. (Aren't my guys gorgeous, by the way?)

Oscar enjoyed the sand much more than the water.

...i stopped this video (below) just as Oscar rubbed sand in his eye. Fun time was then over as we quickly (and unsuccessfully) tried to flush his eyes with a water bottle. Live and learn, live and learn...

Oscar has learned to shake his head "no" when he doesn't want something. He started it in Hawaii and has continued to do it back at home. I think he may have learned it at school. I love it because I've been using "baby sign" with him to help him communicate with us--so this newest development is helping tremendously.

Here we are on a beach in Wailea. We liked the Wailea beaches the best. I still have sand in my bathing suit from sitting here with Oscar.

Totally tuckered out with grandma...


Here we are at the Old Lahaina Luau in Lahaina, HI. It was recommended as the best luaua in Maui and didn't disappoint. Oscar slept all the way to Lahaina and wasn't quite into having his picture taken.


Luckily, the band woke him up. See how he likes to dance...

Oscar really enjoyed the luau entertainment. He would call out and yell in excitement as the dancers performed and the music played. Very exciting stuff.

After three hours at the luau, Oscar was too tuckered out to notice the hot chick beside him.


David took this photo on our last night in Maui--before going to the airport. It's just outside our favorite Maui restaurant--Mama's Fish House. If you go to Maui, you have to go to Mama's! (We went twice).


Video shot outside of Mama's. This place is too beautiful to believe. Seriously. It's almost magical.

This video is a little dark to fully appreciate, but Oscar really enjoyed the fish at Mama's Fish House. In fact, he was a great eater the whole trip. This is the most restaurant food he's had in such a short time, but he adjusted well. I'm so proud of my little traveler. Speaking of traveling, won't be able to post Thanksgiving weekend, but I'll try and do another post the weekend after. Happy Holidays everybody!
